The Shanghai World Financial Center is the tallest building in China. But what may even be more significant is the fact that it′s also one of the most elegant buildings in China. Unlike many of the other skyscrapers in China, this KPF design eschews the overly ornate "ancient Chinese" architectural style in favor of a simple, abstract design. The distinctive parallelogram-shaped aperture at the top of the building is both interesting as a design element and practical as an architectural feature, since it allows wind to blow through and therefore lessens the building′s wind resistance. The building also features three amazing observation decks, one of which actually has glass set in the floor for a view beyond compare—in China or anywhere.
