Chicago is arguably the skyscraper capital of the world. With that kind of reputation, you can′t just plunk any old building into the Chicago skyline, not even if your name is Donald Trump. So, then The Donald wanted a Trump Tower in Chicago, he had to make an effort (rather rare in his case) to make it interesting. Tower Chicago, designed by SOM, is definitely that, with its curiously stacked and tiered design. But it′s not just a piece of art; it′s artful as well. Form meets function in a design that "confuses the wind," allowing the building to move less in the face of Chicago′s infamous bluster. And speaking of bluster, I got to meet Mr. Trump for this episode. The guy′s a force of nature. But I′m thinking maybe we could get SOM to design a new hairdo.
