Last October Brazil stunned the world (and President Obama) by beating out Madrid, Tokyo and Chicago to win the right to hold the 2016 Olympics in Rio. Then, not but one month later, the country suffered the single worst blackout in human history. Quite literally 60 million homes went dark, along with entire neighboring country of Uruguay. To make matters worse (or better) Rio will also host the World Cup in 2014 (they are only the second city in history to have both events back-to-back). So it came as no surprise that Rio has decided to radically upgrade their aging infrastructure. And in this episode I travel to rural Brazil to investigate the construction of a massive hydroelectric project, located 100 miles outside of Rio, that will hopefully deliver the power they need to accommodate a pair of events that will be bigger then Carnival (assuming they can keep lights stay on).
