Do you ever wonder what happens to Olympic athletes after their few moments in the spotlight have passed? Well, I can′t help it: I wonder what happens to the Olympic buildings. One day they are the darlings of the world, and the next . . . empty shells. But it doesn′t have to be that way. In London, site of the 2012 Summer Olympics, they are building Olympic infrastructure with a clear future: either to contribute to the city or to vanish. Or, in the case of the Olympic Aquatic Centre designed by Zaha Hadid, to do a little of both. It will begin its glory days as a wave-shaped, high-tech temple of swimming and diving, as well as the entrance to the Olympic Park. But they will continue after the Olympics, when, with a little architectural magic, the building becomes a much-needed community pool. Judges, how would you score it? Would you give it a 10?
